• You must provide an abstract of no more than 100 words which will state what your essay is about. This is included in the word length
• The essay must written be in Times New Roman 12 point
• You must provide a cover sheet
• You must staple your work together
• You are required to reference your work and provide a bibliography in the proper form
•  A long and short guide to the Australian Guide to Legal Citation 3^rd edition is on iLearn
• The assignment must be put in through Turnitin and a hard copy submitted to BESS by 4pm 8 June
• No extensions will be granted. There will be a deduction of 10% of the total available marks made from the total awarded mark for each 24 hour period or part therefore.
• The penalty will not apply is an application for disruption to studies is made and approved.

The research question

The Unit has considered what is meant by a sustainable planet from a number of perspectives. With the world’s population now over 7 million the issues facing the ongoing sustainability of the planet is highly problematic. Many difference sustainability issues have been discussed and debated in both the lectures and tutorials during the semester.

A major problem that must be addressed urgently is the amount of plastic waste in the oceans and its effect on animals, plants and humans.

You are to write an essay that discusses the problem of plastic waste, where it comes from, where it ends up, what form it takes, the creatures i.e. fish and mammals that are affected and what you think could and should be done about this problem. You will need to supply data and geographical details in your answer.

In your answer you are to refer to relevant international laws and national laws.

You must write a well thought out introduction and conclusion.
