Knowing that Peter is a collector for BEETLE cars , on 1 June, Susan wrote to Peter offering to sell him her beetle car for $24,000, the offer to remain open until 7 June. However, soon after posting that letter, Susan had found another buyer who gave her a higher price. On the morning of 2 June, Susan emailed Peter advising him that the car was no longer available for sale.

Peter received Susan’s letter at 3pm on 2 June, and at 4pm he sent a text message replying to Susan as follows: ‘I like your offer, but, due to my present financial position, will you accept payment of $1,200 per month over 20 months?’.

On the next morning (3 June), Peter learnt from the news that Volkswagen had closed the production line of beetle car which now become more valuable as a collection. That afternoon, Peter phoned Susan and left a message saying: ‘Please forget my text message. I accept you offer and can pay immediately I receive the car’. Few hours later after his call, Peter received Susan’s email message; and Susan received Peter’s text and phone messages in the following morning (4 June).
