You recently made a home visit to one of your assigned participants, Mary Jones and her family. The following was discussed or occurred during your visit with the Mary Jones. Please review the summary of the visit and answer the questions below: Â
Tuesday, March 21, 2017, 9:30a.m. - The visit took place at Mary Jonesâ home. There were three men outside the home when you arrived. It took Mary ten (10) minutes to answer the doorbell. She appeared at the door in her robe and slippers. Three-year old Johnny also came to the door as well as eight-year old Susie. Susie is in second grade, but she was not dressed for school. Johnny and Susie asked for cereal and Mary gave the children bowls, spoons, milk and a box of Cheerios. The children sat down in front of the TV to eat. They watched Sesame Street while they ate the cereal.
Mary excused herself and went upstairs to put on clothes. She came back downstairs wearing a t-shirt and shorts.  Mary related the following in regards to her recent activities:  She went to the Workforce Center on February 3 and waited for sixty (60) minutes to be seen. However, she had to leave for another appointment, and therefore was not seen.  She received a call from the Workforce Case Manager, Mr. Williams, requesting she meet with him on February 8. Mary didnât feel well on the morning of February 8 and did not keep the appointment.
Mary stated she is concerned about being recertified to receive food stamps and asked for help with this. She and her family need the food stamps since she is not working.
At this point one of the men from outside came into the home. Mary introduced him as âMikeâ. Mike went upstairs for a few minutes then came back down and with different clothes on. Mike may be living in the home and he is not currently on Maryâs lease which could be a violation and place her housing in jeopardy.  Mike walked out the back door.
Mary continued to talk about going to the Workforce Center and stated she went back to see Mr. Williams, but does not recall the date. She stated Mr. Williams advised she needed to return for assessments and to attend a resume writing class. Mary said her car is not working and she needs $500 for the repairs. Because of this Mary stated she would like to find a job as soon as possible and would rather just be referred to job fairs. Johnny came into the room and asked for toast. Mary made Johnny toast. Jenny, Maryâs 21 year old daughter, came downstairs and sat down at the kitchen table. Mary asked if the case worker could find out how she could become the âPower of Attorneyâ for Jenny because Jenny has several disabilities that prevent her from being able to work, according to Mary. Mary also wants to find out how she can apply for Social Security Disability for Jenny. Jenny left the room and went upstairs. Susie followed her upstairs.
Mary stated that in the past she made childrenâs clothes and wondered if this might be a better career path for her.  She does not currently have a sewing machine and asked where she could get an inexpensive used one.  Mary stated she might want to start her own business. She stated if she starts her own business she wonât have to learn how to write a resume or take any assessments at the Workforce Center. Mary said she could walk to the local craft store to buy fabric since her car is not working.
