Let's pretend I walk into your office. For this post, let's also assume you are a licensed psychologist.Â
I present to you my current dilemma:Â for as long as I can remember, I have always had difficulty interacting with people. I was shy as a child and I would prefer to be by myself. I do recall trying to meet some fellow classmates in elementary school and was laughed at in front of the entire playground! Since then, I have avoided most people and kept a pretty consistent secluded lifestyle. I work as a train conductor but I do not really interact with the riders as I check their tickets. I haven't dated much and generally spend most of my weekends watching reality television.Â
So...based on this presentation:
1). Choose one theoretical orientation (Psychodynamic, Behavioral, Cognitive, Humanistic/existential) and discuss from this orientation's point of view how my "issue" came to be. In other words, how did it originate? How was it maintained into adulthood?Â
2). Talk about 2 main aspects of this orientation that define treatment. In other words, since specific orientations have specific treatment strategies, what 2 options that are specific to the orientation you chose would you use with me in therapy?Â
