This is Business Law class and answer has to be very short essay form.

Can you explain what type of law should I use for this essay? I guess I can use court jurisdiction but not sure it is.

 

Sonia, a resident of Kansas, got into a fist fight, with Willow, a resident of Kentucky, while visiting Sonia’s relatives in Kentucky. While Sonia was arrested for assault and battery, criminal charges were later dropped. Willow decides to file a civil lawsuit and sue Sonia claiming that she suffered $75,000.00 in total damages.

 

Willow wants to file this case in a state court in Kentucky. Does the state court in Kentucky have the power to hear this case? Fully explain.

 

Assume that Willow seeks to file the lawsuit in federal court in Kentucky. Does the federal court have the power to hear this case? Fully explain.
