CVS 515: Design of Low-Rise Buildings 2016/2017 Academic Year DESIGN OF LOW-RISE BUILDINGS MAIN ASSIGNMENT 2016/2017 ACADEMIC YEAR DUE DATE: JANUARY 4, 2017 A commercial low-rise building is to be designed based on the architectural plans shown in drawings XXX/YYY/2016/001 to XXX/YYY/2016/004. The major construction features for the project are as follows:  The building is a five-storey structure  An underground parking at the basement is to be provided  An underground water tank of 36,000 litre-capacity is to beprovided  3-No. elevated water tanks each of 5,000 litre-capacity are to be provided at the roof-level of the penthouse  The soil bearing capacity in the area is 150 kN/m2  Fire resistance requirements is based on 1 hour for all elements  The exposure conditions considered as mild  Wind loading conditions considers basic speed of 21m/sec, and factors given as Sa = 1.05, Sb = 1.71, Sd = 1.0, Ss = 1.0, Sp = 1.0, Ca = 0.84, Cpe = +0.8 (front), Cpe = -0.3 (rear), Cr = 0.025  Materials considered are concrete of grade 30 with 20 mm maximum aggregate size and reinforcements with characteristic strength of 460 N/mm2 for main bars and 250 N/mm2 for links. Required: a) Suggest the structural plans for the analysis of the building i.e. the structural form, drawings of the structural floor plans and recommended foundationtype b) Design and detail the following structural elements (i) The RC slab to carry the elevated water tanks at the roof level of the pent-house (ii) The slab at the ground floor level (iii) Typical internal and external beam at the ground floor level (iv) Typical internal column from roof level to foundation level (v) The RC retaining wall at the basement (vi) The RC water tank (vii) The RC lift shaft between the basement level and the ground floor level c) Prepare the bar-bending schedule for the designed structuralelements
