Overview

The purpose of this assignment is for students to research a disease or health condition that occurs in a lifespan (age) group.

Assignment Instructions

  1. Identify the age group that you will be focusing on, which is determined by your last name:
    • Last name begins with A-H: Maternal, Infant, & Child Health
    • Last name begins with I-M: Adolescents, Young Adults, & Adult Health
    • Last name begins with N-Z: Elder Health
  2. Select a disease or health condition that is acquired in and/or occurs in this age group. (For example, you could write about head lice for children, diabetes for adults, or arthritis for elders. These are just listed here as examples- please pick a topic that interests you.)
  3. Create a document using Times New Roman font in size 12, 1 inch margins, and 1.5 spacing for the write-up. 
  • Provide background information about the disease or health condition you have chosen, including how it is acquired and how many people in the US are affected by the disease/condition. Max length: 2 paragraphs.
  • Provide information about how the disease/condition can be prevented. Max length: 1 paragraph.
  • Provide information about how the disease/condition can be treated. Max length: 1 paragraph.
  • As always, be sure to cite any website or other reference that you use in researching your topic.NOTE:Because you will be citing statistics about incidence and/or prevalence, which means you will be directly using material from a source, all students will need to use in-line citations in addition to listing your sources at the end of your paper.
