Write a 100 word essay response to this,

Write a 175 word essay answer to the question below  referencing chapter 7, 8, 9,  & 10 in Salkind, N. J. (2013). Statistics for people who (think they) hate statistics (5th ed.). London, UK: SAGE.

Why is a Gaussian (bell shaped) distribution referred to as “normal”? What are some special characteristics of the Gaussian distribution that can be applied to making judgments about research findings?

The bell-shaped curve is referred to as "normal" because it "provides us with a basis for understanding the probability associated with any possible outcome" (Salkind, 2013). There are three special characteristics that make the Gaussian distribution normal. First is it includes the mean, median, and mode for the representation of the distribution of values. Next, is the curve must be asymptotic, which means that the ends of the curve never come into connect with the graph. Finally, the normal curve is exactly symmetrical, which means that the graph can be folded in half and it will look the same on each side.

My opinion is maybe that it is distributed as normal is because it is an average distribution. For example, what goes up must come down and the bell just describes a normal average graph as well as statistical data with mean, mode, and median. Special characteristics of the Gaussian distribution that could be applied to making judgments about research findings is that it does include mean, median, and mode and that can be used well. What I mean is, the mean can be used in order to describe the average of research findings in statistical data. Mode could be used to figure out what was mostly used or calculated in research findings, and median would help in ways that it could explain the middle area of the research findings.
