Writing expectations

The purpose of this assignment is to recognize social psychology concepts at play in your everyday experience.   Keeping a field log of your observations of social experiences of a group of people for one day, you will critically discuss how the group is shaped and constrained by society. This will allow you to actively observe some of the social psychology concepts learned in class.

Writing expectations

The paper should be 6 typed pages, double-spaced, 12-point font, with 1" margins.  Remember to use APA format to cite and reference your sources.  Visit APA.org for help with formatting.

Instructions

1 Create a log.  For one day record your key observations of a group of people as they interact with each other.  Be particularly observant about how they act with each other within the group and how they act with others outside of the group.  You may want to observe this group in different settings, for example in a class setting, a cafeteria, engaging in a sport or organized group activity.  This is a formal written log which will be submitted with your assignment and is included in the overall page count.

2 For your paper you must answer the following questions referring to the specific principles you have learned thus far in the class.

Included a bolded and centered heading for each of the following topics to ensure all content is clearly included

What was your initial impression of the group?

What did you observe about how the group handles impression management?

What did you observe about in-group, out-group behavior?

What did you observe about how others outside of the group reacted to the group?

What did you observe about prejudicial or stereotypical behavior within the group?
