English Composition I
“B” Paper Requirements
The “B” paper is a 1000-word (3-4 page) paper written with a persuasive purpose and an
evaluation pattern. You are to choose a topic, which lends itself well to evaluation, then
set up specific criteria with which to evaluate the topic. You are to persuade the audience
as you evaluate the subject. Criteria are to be listed and numbered clearly at the
beginning of your paper.
Here are some examples of topics with criteria. They are merely suggestions although
you may use one of them if you wish.

Student Services The possibilities are endless. If you are a tennis player, evaluate the perfect racquet. If
you have children, analyze your day care options.
Remember to choose one product/service/position and defend it as the best in your
estimation. You may use outside sources, but they must be well-documented in MLA
format. You may use first, second or third person. You may also use comparison/contrast
pattern.
This is to be in a paragraph, narrative format, so you are not to merely ‘list’ qualities.
Thoroughly discuss them. Your paper should be in a standard essay format: introduction
(overview), body (discussion of criteria) and definitive conclusion.
