Giving bad news to a job applicant

SCENARIO- You are the hiring manager for a mid-sized company. You have narrowed the applicants for a managerial position to two: First, a 22-year-old college graduate who interned at a different division of your company two summers ago but has no additional industry experience. Second, a 48-year-old MBA with over 20 years experience related to your industry. Although the older candidate is better qualified, your bugget restrictions will not allow your to meet the older candidate's salary requirements. Whom do you hire? Indicate the medium you would choose and draft a bad-news message to one of the applicants.

  • Your message should be written as a professional letter in Microsoft Word.
  • There is no correct or incorrect answer for who you decide to hire and who you decide to reject, however you must explain the reason for your decision. In addition to writing the rejection letter, include a short paragraph that discusses your reasoning. This short paragraph can be written at the bottom of your rejection letter on the same document. It should be a around one hundred and fifty words.
