Sensory adaptation

I need help replying to this: Sensory adaptation occurs when our sense perception starts getting used to a strong stimulus causing it to be less sensitive towards it. It is helpful for everyday psychological functioning because it helps our senses adapt in different circumstances to new and strong stimulus rather than getting distracted by detecting different changes to stimulus. Without it, the body would be sensing something new and surprising all the time which is inconvenient for everyday functioning. For example, swimming in a pool when our body first touches the water it feels cool (similar to Fallon's beach example), slowly our body adapts to the cool temperature as well - however imagine if our body is in the constant sensation that it was in at first, this would be a disturbance because it won't allow us to swim properly since it does not feel pleasant without proper sensory adaptation. Nonetheless, sensory adaptation could impede functioning by making us unaware of how well our senses work because we already have a certain adaptation. Musicians who may constantly be exposed to loud music or sounds may be unaware of the fact that their hearing sense have become less sensitive because playing loud music to the audience has become a regular custom to them. Because sensory adaptation is a part of their everyday functioning it could cause them to get mildly deaf at some point.
