Topic:  The topic of your paper will be of your choosing.  However, it must relate to a law specific topic and have a viewpoint that is controversial in some nature. 

For example, if someone (do not choose this now) wanted to write about the possibility of laws controlling the use or ownership of guns in a particular city or state, that would be fine.  The writer could talk about what the current status of the law is and what it should be (in their mind) as well as what the adverse side feels about the issue. 

Essentially, I want you to choose a topic in the law that has differing viewpoints and that you can advocate for one side or the other.

Format:  The paper will be in any style or format you choose.  It will be written in Times New Roman 12 point font and have 1 inch margins.  The paper should have an introduction, body and conclusion.  The paper will also have a title page, table of contents and sources cited page.  Any style that you have used thus far in your college career will be fine I am sure.  If this is the first paper you have written in college, Google it.

Content:  The content of the body of the paper should be informative and then give your viewpoint.  Essentially, I want you to explain the problem or issue from a neutral perspective.  Then, you can give both sides’ arguments.  The last portion of your paper should be your personal viewpoint and the rationale for your support. 

Citation is important here.  Please do not plagiarize as I will be running the papers through Grammarly or PlagScan to automatically check for that.  I have no problem with you using facts and figures from another’s work, just make sure and give credit.

Length:  Everyone always asks how long the paper has to be.  I do not like setting a minimum or maximum number of pages because everyone writes different stylistically and I don’t want to impose a page minimum, but at the same time, someone will write me a 2 page paper that is clearly insufficient and then complain that I didn’t set a minimum.   So, I am giving you a lot of time and points for completing this paper, I do not think that a 7 page minimum is overly burdensome.  Again, you are choosing the topic and giving your personal opinion on the matter in the paper, so you should be able to find something interesting and worth writing about.
