ways of understanding the diversity in language

This week we have discussed many different ways of understanding the diversity in language. We have discussed how cultural difference make a difference, language differences, age, culture, use of slang, environment, brain development, cognition and more! Our readings also discusses how language is special due to three properties that seem to make it different.

1.) Humans seemed to be primed to learn language with exposure, but without instruction.
2.) Humans appear to be the only species capable of having language.
3.) Language influences other cognitive processes.

Even though, there is a tremendous amount of diversity in languages and language acquisition it is interesting to learn that children worldwide experience the same stages of language development. People want to express themselves!

What has been the most significant thing that you learned during week four about language? How will it influence you in your continued; work, education, or life in general?
