1.         Assume that you have been hired as a consultant by an American firm that is planning to open branches of its company in several different countries around the world. Explain to them the three most important points about intercultural communication that they must keep in mind while dealing with employees and customers in other countries.

2.        How does the information presented in Chapter 10 on culture and personality help you to understand your own personality and/or the personality of family members better? Discuss at least two different insights, giving examples.

3.         Give one example each of how “overpathologizing” and “underpathologizing” can be problems in dealing with mental illness cross-culturally. .

5.         How can the information on ingroup/outgroup relationships and attribution presented in Chapter 13 & 14 be combined with the information on the treatment of abnormal behavior in Chapter 12 to help psychotherapists better understand how to help the mentally ill be treated with respect in different cultures?

6.         Use information from Chapter 15 of your textbook to write another report for the company mentioned in Question 1 about what three aspects of cross-cultural organizational behavior they should most keep in mind during their expansion.

7.         Use information from at least two different chapters in your text to give advice to foreign students at Bellevue University on how they can best understand differences in “dating” and romantic relationships between their home culture(s) and the United States. Tell them at least three things they must keep in mind in interpreting the actions of American students in regard to intimate relationships.

8.         What have you learned in the last half of this course that has been most interesting or surprising to you, both in terms of cultural similarities and cultural differences? What does this show about your own cultural background?

9.         What concepts covered in the second half of the course most help you to understand the culture presented in the film Autumn Afternoon? How?

10.       If you were given a large research grant to look into a question in cross-cultural psychology, what do you think would be the most important and/or interesting issue to research? What don’t we know that we need the most new research on? Briefly discuss how you would go about designing a study to investigate this question.
