I need help answering this:  I will try to just respond to whether these interferences have any implications for learning multiple foreign languages. If for example, a student studied Spanish in freshman and sophomore years of High School and then decides to switch to German in junior year, proactive interference may come into play. She would have difficulty with learning German because what she learned in Spanish would interfere. She may recall grammar from Spanish and this blocks her learning German grammar or she may find herself using a Spanish accent with the German sentences. What she knew in Spanish (the older learned language) would hinder her from learning a new language (in the current time). I personally find learning a new language is very difficult at any time. I did take years of Spanish but am not sure I learned enough to cause proactive interference if I tried a new language. Any thoughts on this? Anyone have actual experience learning two languages? I have heard that some people just have a way with learning languages. I do not.
