Background Let's start with a story. Before our current tactical radios, the military often relied on a simple  wired phone system. Much like the cans and string you used as a child, these electrically operated  handsets had to be physically connected by wire. One of the problems in such a system is when  mortar or artillery fire would break a wire. Then the only option would be to send a physical  message. Such a case has happened in our story. The Colonel calls in a Sergeant and gives him a written  message. "Sergeant, I need you to get this message to the Captain, otherwise his company will be cut off and  destroyed." "Yessir," answered the Sergeant, popping to attention. "I'll do my best." "Sergeant, I don't want you to do your best, I want you to get the message to the Captain. The Sergeant thought,  "Holy smokes! He wants me to die trying."  The Sergeant was a good  soldier and realized the company depended on him so he told the Colonel, "Sir, I'll get the message  to the Captain or die trying!" The Colonel sighed. Then he grabbed the Sergeant by the shoulder. "Sergeant, I don't want you to  die. I want you to get the message to the Captain." The morale of the story is that there are situations where trying isn't enough. It only matters if we  succeed. Most of the time we don't think about what we do in life and death terms like the story  above. But there are serious things we do where second place and trying hard really don't count for  much. For example, trying hard to get this degree has benefits no matter what comes out but future  job applications will not have a box for you to put in degrees you tried to earn or almost earned. All  that will count is what degree you actually have. At the same time, we have to balance a lot of different things in our lives. Sometimes we need to  change goals or they are changed for us despite our best efforts. We have to learn how to balance  our commitments so that we can be counted on but also do it in a way where we aren't killing  ourselves trying to do too much or sticking with things when we really should be re-evaluating. Prompt For this assignment, write an APA formatted paper of at least 1000 words that addresses how we  can know how to properly manage the commitments we make. Your paper should take a stand  somewhere on the continuum of  always do whatever you commit to  on one end and  whenever it  gets tough or you change your mind, drop your commitment  on the other end. Your paper  should not only identify where we should strive to be on the continuum but when to adjust and
