contexts associated with the development of theories

Remember the contexts associated with the development of theories byVygotskyand Piaget as they independently tried to explain childhood? Their lives were influenced by parents, ethnic realities, political ideologies and so many other contextual realities. What would you say are key components of the current context within which we are studying their work and using it to explain issues such as obesity, learning disabilities, antisocial behavior (bullying), anorexia, etc.?In other words, what are some of the important elements impacting our current world view as it relates to child development; how might our discussion have been different 20 years ago? What has the textbook author referenced relative to context or revealed about the forces that have impacted her world view?(I have that bolded because it's often left out when students answer the prompts.) What has happened in your life to shape your unique perspective on all of this?
