theory of interaction ritual

I am writing a paper on the theory of interaction ritual chains for my social psychology course. The focus will eventually be on Randall Collins but I'm trying wrap my head around the evolution from Durkheim to Goffman to Collins and do a brief compare and contrast of how they relate to one another. Does anyone have a basic explanation of how each sociologist viewed rituals?
