In Chapter 15 of Fundamentals of Abnormal Psychology, Comer reviews a variety of conditions that may impact functioning in later life, including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, substance misuse, psychotic disorders, and disorders of cognition. Each of these types of disorders presents significant life challenges to those who have them. In this week's Discussion, you will evaluate the potential impacts of these various conditions on the lives of the elderly.
To prepare for this Discussion:
Post by Day 3Â a brief description of your chosen disorder and the special challenges it presents to an elderly person versus someone in another age group. Evaluate the effects of the disorder on various aspects of functioning, including cognitive, emotional, and interpersonal functioning. Offer a creative solution or suggestion to combat one of the effects that you evaluated, either for the person suffering the disorder or a caregiver. Conclude with comments regarding special treatment considerations necessary for an elderly person diagnosed with this disorder.
