Topic is arousal, stress, and, anxiety.

Respond in 250 words to the attached forum post. The Topic is arousal, stress, and, anxiety.

1. Do you tend to be an individual that struggles with stress and anxiety? I struggle with stress and anxiety depending on the situation. If I am in a public situation where I am performing a job task or even speaking in public, I am comfortable and my stress and anxiety are generally low. However, when I am running a 5k or 10k race, my anxiety and stress levels seem to go up. I have noticed this over the past few years that I have been running races. I think the reason for it is because I am competing against myself in those situations and I have a certain expectation of myself and my performance. 2. If not, explain your general arousal personality. 3. What are possible factors that influence your arousal, stress, and anxiety status before an event? The main factor that influences my stress and anxiety is the competition against myself. I set a particular goal and I strive to get to that goal. Sometimes I reach it, sometimes I do not. When I do not reach that goal, I try to sit back a review my performance and attempt to figure out what went wrong. When I can figure out what went wrong, I attempt to fix it so my performance improves for the next event or race. Arousal for me is getting into the mood of the event. I draw a lot off of the crowd depending on how excitable it is. On a personal level, I have a certain set of songs that seem to do the trick for me no matter what is going on around me. 4. What are strategies that you can apply to reduce stress and anxiety and maintain appropriate arousal levels? My arousal levels during an event are generally consistence. I never have much a problem getting ready to go. My biggest opportunities are with stress and anxiety. Some things that I try for myself to help with stress is reminding myself of the work that I have put in to get to that point. Also, visualization is a big part of the competition for me. I took the Illinois Competition Test and scored reasonably even across all three categories. The scale was 9- 36. 9 means low anxiety and 36 means high anxiety. My scores were: Cognitive 18, Somatic 19 and Self- confidence was 19. These results did not surprise me much because I consider myself fairly even tempered when involved in a competition. The interesting part about the test was that going into it, I expected self- confidence anxiety to be higher and somatic anxiety to be lower. The cognitive state anxiety was about where I expected it to be. Reference: Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-2).
