Discussion Prompt:

Discussion Prompt:

Page 41 of the Ormrod text outlines seven strategies for applying the tenets of Vygotsky's theory of cognitive development in the classroom. In addition, Ormrod provides a specific way in which teachers may implement each of these strategies. For this week's discussion, read each of Ormrod's strategies and examples, and provide for your classmates one additional way you might implement one of the 7 listed strategies. For example, to further illustrate the second listed strategy, "Present some tasks that students can perform successfully only with assistance," as a preschool teacher, I may instruct students to get ready for recess by zipping up their coats, knowing full-well that my assistance will most likely be necessary for successful completion of the task.

For additional insight into Vygotsky's theory and specific tenets of his theory, please review the following websites:

2. ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development): http://www.joanwink.com/vov/vyg-zpd.pdf (Links to an external site.) (This is an excellent example of the ZPD in use in a college classroom in an accidental situation)
