His roommates are hostile toward him and often eat his groceries, even though he labels everything that he puts in the refrigerator. One evening, while walking across the quad, he sees a large mountain lion in the periphery. A chase ensues. Describe the immediate changes that might take place in Carl’s body during the inevitable autonomic reaction to the presence of the mountain lion. Speculate on the condition of Carl’s immune system both before and after the wildlife encounter (assuming that there is an “after” for Carl). Based on what you know about stress and how to combat it, what changes could Carl make in his post-mountain lion life to improve his health?  If Carl does not change his ways, what do you think will happen to Carl?
