Guidelines for Building Motivation
Using Weinberg and Gould’s (2011) list of useful guidelines for building motivation below provide an example of how you would implement each guideline. You may use the example on the next page to help generate your response. The example is titled “Breathing Life into the Gym: A Physical Educator’s Plan for Enhancing Student Motivation” (Weinberg & Gould, 2011, p. 60).
Consider both situation and personal characteristics influencing motivation.
Identify multiple motives for involvement.
Change the environment to enhance motivation.
Remember leaders have a BIG influence on one’s motivation (directly and indirectly).
Use behaviour modification to change undesirable motives and strengthen weak motivation.
