Animal Related Diseases

It is important for public health professionals to understand zoonotic and vector-borne diseases because they impact both humans and animals. Additionally, it is possible for diseases to be passed from animals to humans. Understanding their epidemiology helps prevention of these diseases.

This is also applicable to toxic metals and other elements that have the potential to poison the environment and humans. Public health professionals must understand the various types of toxic metals, how humans are exposed to these metals, the occupations where these metals might be present, and how to prevent exposure.

Using the readings of this module and the Argosy University online library resources, respond to the following:

  • Choose an example of either a zoonotic or vector-borne disease that is prevalent in the United States. Review information available on the disease and explain its characteristics and its impact on public health.
  • Choose one of the essential metals with a potential for toxicity. Review information and studies conducted on this metal. Examine its main characteristics in relation to being a public health hazard.

Write your initial response in 200 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
