what we can learn and how it can set our path for the future.

Good Morning, I have two other classes I need to submit my work on and really can’t find exactly what to write for my two classmates responses on their forum. Can you help me by responding to each of them in at least 200 words? I have two of them that I have selected; if you can help me out I would greatly appreciate it. If you have any questions please let me know. Thanks

First response,

Proving to be a very interesting forum this week, I have chosen to take full advantage of what we can learn and how it can set our path for the future. Although, I had a very good understanding of what I wanted to study when it came to the field of psychology, it took a little time to understand exactly what that entailed. Many of us know from the beginning we want to study things like psychopathology, depression, or PTSD, but how do we know where these cases fall? For myself I chose to break down my choice of psychopathology and investigate what and who it is that actually focuses on this subfield. Narrowing this choice down was easy and led me in the direction of clinic psychology. Focusing on this field of study will not only give me the opportunity to study psychopathology it will also give me the background I need to further understanding how the different pieces of psychopathology works.

Now that I have found out that I would like to focus on the clinical psychology field I wanted to get a better understanding. Clinical psychology is the study of psychology, which works to provide continual and easy mental and behavioral health care (Clinical Psychology, 2016). Having this is something of great importance because it provides a basis for understanding the different effects that will come with these newfound challenges. But clinical psychology goes beyond the understanding and continual research of mental and behavioral health care, in-fact it also focuses on assessing the disorder and finding the best way for that person or family to cope with these changes (Clinical Psychology, 2016). Even though this is my main goal clinical psychologist focus on a greater realm of things including suicide and violence. They do not stop just at the affect mental health issues have over a life span but they go further and try to help with behavioral health issues as well (Clinical Psychology, 2016). The ability these psychologists have to help others is just what I want to have when finalizing my career choice.

Working within the clinical psychology field there can be many different problems or issues that come up. One of the pleasing things that this job could bring, in my opinion, is the gratification that you get seeing those families leave your office feeling better. In-fact, my overall goal is to educate families who will soon be welcoming a child into their families, who has a mental disorder. This time in life can already be scary enough, but adding a disorder like Down syndrome or autism can add to this scare at a greater rate. I do believe going this route and helping these families will ensure less children being placed into to foster homes.

Second response,

I would have to say that I am learning quite a bit from the assignment. It is great to know that there are several areas to focus on in Psychology. When I started out with my Criminal Justice degree, I was aiming at being a Probation Officer. But I soon lost interest in that. Then I thought about being a Social Worker, but changed my mind until I discovered that there is more than one type of Social Worker. When I thought of Social worker, I envisioned those who placed children in safe places. Once I got further knowledge, I now see the different areas which one could work. Which ever way I decide on, its good to know that I can most likely use it along my Military career path. Industrial-organizational psychology is used within the Military and so are most of the others. One of the enduring challenges in successfully conducting a military operation is the coordinated movement of military personnel (and associated civilians and contractors) into and out of the theater of operations. This is not a simple task about putting one person into the right job. It is about putting thousands of people into the right jobs for rotating periods of time in different locations in different countries across different military branches (Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines). As we learned from previous assignment, I-O is the scientific study of the workplace. Counseling Psychologist would be a opportunity as well within the Military.

I find several areas of careers interesting. One being Clinical psychologists which treat mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. In this area, you can work with youths; families or couples; ethnic minority groups; gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals; or older people. In a class I took a while back I learned about Geriatric Psychology. Geriatric psychology is an important branch of psychology that focuses on the mental, emotional, and physical problems faced by elderly individuals. This often includes studying and researching different problems that might occur as a person begins nearing the end of their life in old age. This seems like an area that I would be passionate about as well as working with youth. Another area that has my attention is Health psychologists. They play a big role in the military, helping soldiers and veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, life adjustment and suicide prevention. Something that hits home for me in this area is when I had to see Health psychologist for my issues with insomnia. They assisted me with creating a regular bedtime routine, limiting my caffeine intake and participating in relaxation activities before bed. So, I can definitely see myself working in one of those areas. There are other areas, I like, however, I think the best area will be where I have the most passion and will be of benefit to the people I work with.
