Discuss cultural aspects of eating disorders. What do they say about our culture? What do they say about society and our changing times? What do they say about us? Can we keep our biases (And, issues) out of the therapy room when we work with folks who experience eating disorders? Think about some of these issues when you post. In the course of understanding the evidence of Ed, I have concluded these points.  Separating my own opinions and biases to the extent of my decisions not affecting appropriate recommendations and advise for the patient  Understanding cultural nuances for each individual prior to providing methodologies and therapeutic decisions  Natural biases are ok until there is a disruption in your normalcy  Do our societal conditionings choose our path or who are we living for? Eating disorder cause disturbance of the physical systems of the body, because the emotional systems have been disabled and misunderstood. In the video’s perceived character traits have created social acceptance from in manipulated point of view. The media, societal views and cultural rituals have created a misrepresentation of normalcy, to profit, benefit and create unrealistic functionalities from dysfunctional situations. I will begin this discussion with the definition of eating disorder (ED). ED is defined by a persistent disturbance of eating or eating related behavior that results in the altered consumption or absorption of food and that significantly impairs physical health or psychosocial functioning. The criteria includes eating of nonnutritive or nonfood substances over a one month period and is inappropriate to the developmental level of the individual, and not part of a culturally supported or socially normative practice. In some cases, the eating behaviors occur within another mental disorder, then additional clinical support is warranted. The diagnosing criteria for eating disorders are, pica, rumination disorder, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge- eating disorder. CULTURAL ASPECTS The postmodern adaptation of eating disorder still leads the way in self-worth, esteem, and gratification of being thin and enlightened. The percipients of eating disorders are tied to many aspects of being then, looking a certain way that is perceived by our societal educators, such as the media and controlled by peer pressure.
