Explain why, or why not an NG tube should be placed.

Often when a patient arrives at the hospital, an IV line is started. Can you speculate as to why that might be?

 

1) Mike Moto, a 20 y/o m, sustained major facial and abdominal injuries in a motorcycle accident. He just arrived in the ED and the Trauma Team is placing lines and monitors.

Explain why, or why not an NG tube should be placed.

2) Otto Oldee, a 98 y/o m, has residual dysphagia from a CVA (cerebrovascular accident aka stroke) he sustained three days ago
