Most glucose transporters are specific for glucose. A couple of transporters can transport glucose or fructose. If you eat a lot of sugar, your cells make more of the fructose transporting version. Some people have severe bloating, diarrhea, and gas when they eat sugar, and this appears to be because something about transporters in their intestinal cell membranes differs from people who don't get these symptoms.)
