Which is Learn from your mistakes

Hi , Please i need short comment and question for the post bellow.

The first strategy I picked is number 3. Which is be flexible in your behavior. This means that you have to be open minded and be able to adapted to your environment and/ or the situation you may find yourself in. The second strategy I picked is number 4. Which is Learn from your mistakes. As I see it you can not go through life without making some mistakes along the way. Life is about living your life and in the process your bond to make mistakes. You must be able to learn something from the mistakes you make so you can one not make the same mistake again and two and most important to grow from your mistakes to become a better person.

The first time I was deployed to Iraq I had to be able to adapted to my surrounding. I can recall the first time my camp came under attack. Having the an enemy you can't see shooting at you. Mortars exploding all around you. When you in that kind of situation you can't show fear or hesitate. The men and women you serve with depend on you with their lives. So I had to be flexible with my behavior and force myself to become an aggressive no fear solider in a split second. It was much harder this first time I had to do it. But after I was there for awhile I didn't have to force myself to flip the switch it was an automatic responds. This strategy was successful it saved my life on many occasions. But now that I am retired it is difficult to keep calm when faced with someone who wants to have a conflict and I am trying not to get mad. But I am getting better at it.

During this first attack my squad and I were successful in repelling the enemy. However; during this battle I mad a mistake that left me with a sever concision. I can't really go in to details but I can say I was injured because of a decision I made. So in other words I was responsible for my injury. That is where I had to use the strategy of learning from my mistakes. It was my first encounter with hostile combatants and I learned that real life is completely different from the training I received. Don't get me wrong the training definitely kept me alive. But it does not teach every possible situation. It tries to but no one can really know everything about everything. Therefore; I had to review what had happened and learn what I should do again and what I should never do again. This strategy was successful because I never made the same mistake twice. And after I long career I come home alive. I am one of the lucky ones. And I do treat each day as a gift.
