Hello class,

One of the functions of the epithelial tissue is diffusion or absorption. An example of this would be the lining in your blood vessels and respiratory membranes. Another function of the epithelial tissue is to protect like the outer layer of your skin. The epithelial tissue has several different shapes depending on where it is located and what it is used for. Some of the shapes are squamous (flat circular), cuboidal (cube) and columnar (tall and skinny like a column). The kidneys, lungs and digestive organs all contain epithelial tissue.

Acne is caused by a blockage of pores by sebum and dead skin cells. This blockage is the perfect place for bacteria which causes acne. If my son were to develop acne I would have him was his face twice a day with a mild detergent soap and use a moisturizer to help unclog the pores and keep them open.

Skeletal muscles are in the skeletal muscular system and are used for movement and stabilization of your core. Smooth muscles are in the cardiovascular system and line your blood vessels and digestive tract. Cardiac muscles are in the heart to make it beat. A couple similarities are they all have on nucleus in their cells and they all contract to move. A difference is the skeletal muscle is controlled where as the heart and smooth muscles are not controlled voluntary.

A myocardial infarction or heart attack is caused when blood flow is blocked to a portion of the heart. When this happens the part of the heart that doesn't receive blood looses it oxygen and begins to die. After blood flow to the affected portion of the heart is restored it will recover. Once you have a heart attack you have to change your life style (you can change before to prevent a heart attack). Some people will have to take medication but a healthy diet and exercise will help make and keep your heart healthy.
