Companies get involved in social responsibilities

I need to reply to this discussion question please....

Companies get involved in social responsibilities for numerous reasons, public relations, tax write offs, and moral obligations. Social Responsibilities have also been mandated for companies through fair hiring practices and disability laws. Some companies chose to do earth friendly advertising like putting their names on water bottles and reusable grocery bags. This is an attempt to get their name out there and to link it to something good and sustainable. In this attempt they have been able to portray themselves as neighbor friendly. Going Green and paying your bills online is another example of how some companies are trying to be more socially responsible. This is also a way for the company to save money on paper and postage.

The companies that take part in social responsibilities may not have (Loeb 2010) the perfect standard. They may not completely understand the movement or put 100% effort towards it. They may not even speak about it in ways that all can understand, but they are working towards a socially responsible goal none the less.

I work for a state operated chemical dependency and mental health treatment center. In our mission statement we are working towards bettering the lives of the people we serve. This is a socially responsible act all in itself. We are not able to advertise what we do or offer because we are state operated, but we do have water bottles that say “Caring for ourselves so we can C.A.R.E. for others” Community Addiction Recovery Enterprise. I do work to better the community and society daily through what teach my clients and how I allow them to make better choices for themselves and their future. My hope is that the kids I work with not only, not repeat the mistakes that got them to me, but also become better adults. I tell them I am depending on them to pay my Social Security someday.

I am also active in my Church. We make a bus trip every summer to the Twin Cities to deliver the quilts we have made and other health kits to the homeless shelters and distribution centers. Through this I feel we have been able to make the lives of people a little bit better. I have a passion for helping people and hope to be able to continue and pass this passion on to my children and someday grandchildren. I want to be able to say I have treated others the way I want to be treated (The Golden Rule).
