The Theory Paper

 

The purpose of the theory paper is to have you compare/contrast/critique two (2) theoretical frameworks of your choice with regard to their usefulness in explaining ethnic stratification. For each theory, you must include at least two appropriate academic journal articles to support your arguments.  You may select to focus on a particular issue that reflects ethnic stratification (e.g., ethnocentrism) or you may select to focus on ethnic stratification in general.

 

Your theory paper must be 4-5 pages in length, include a thesis, and it will be graded on organization, inclusion of academic texts and grammar.

 

Your paper should include:

 

-       A thesis statement;

-       A brief summary/description of the two theories you choose;

-       A brief description of what you selected to focus on in the paper;

-       A discussion on the usefulness of each theory in explaining ethnic stratification, which includes appropriate academic sources to support your arguments;

-       A brief but thoughtful conclusion

 

 

Format:

 

(1) Be typed;   (2) include name, course number, assignment name and date; (3) include a reference section/page; (4) use APA-style formatting; and (5) submitted as a Microsoft Word file (Rich Text Format is also acceptable – avoid submitted written assignments in PDF format as I will not be able to comment directly in the paper).

 

You should double-space your papers, use 1” margins, and 11pt. Arial or Times New Roman font. You should carefully check your paper for spelling and grammar. You should use sub-headings throughout the final paper.
