practical and ethical consideration when in comes to buying or selling gametes

This week you are learning about the reproduction of cells through two means. Mitosis is the reproduction of somatic cells such as liver cells, lung cells, or skin cells. Meiosis is the reproduction of gametes, or sex cells. Each form of reproducing cells undergoes several phases that include prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. The result of mitosis is two diploid daughter cells that contain the same number of chromosomes of the parent cells from which they came. The result of meiosis is 4 haploid daughter cells which contain half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell. from which they came.

The ever-growing acceptance and use of assisted human reproduction techniques has caused demand for "donated" gametes or sperm and eggs to outstrip supply. Medical professionals and others argue that monetary reward is the only way to recruit sufficient numbers of "donors". Thus, the practice of buying and selling gametes is increasing in the USA and other industrialized nations.

Check out this advertisement for egg donors!
