Participants

     190 male and female Duke University students ( Durham, NC. campus) enrolled in a second year psychology statistics course participated in the study. Participants were recruited from five statistics laboratory classes. All calculations were performed across all five samples.

 

Materials 

     Self-control was measured using the Self-Control Scale (Tangney, Baumeister, and Boone, 2004). The inventory measures personal feedback regarding the ability and inability to refuse impulsive behaviour. Procrastination was assessed using Tuckman Procrastination Scale (Tuckman, 1991).

 

Procedure

     Students were asked to complete both scales during scheduled laboratory time, and were given 15 minutes to answer. Upon completoon the scales were collected by the researcher. This process was repeated over several 1-hour periods throughout the same day with a different set of participants during each period.
