Psychobiography: Reflection on Cognitive
Assignment week 5
The cognitive behaviorial approach to personality asserts that personality is a “function of both thinking and behavior, reinforced through life events and interactions with others” (Ellis & Abrams, 2009, p. 57). Tendencies toward reinforcement can be biologically or genetically determined. For example, intelligence, talent, and motivation to succeed driven by environmental influencers can be subverted by personality flaws, such as an obsessive need for approval and recognition. Conversely, a strong drive to succeed and make a difference can be enhanced by personality strengths, such as compassion and sympathy for the disenfranchised. Cognitive theories underscore this “function of both thinking and behavior” reinforced by the influence of external events and relationships. In this Assignment, you will reflect on cognitive theories and their applicability in explaining human behavior.
To prepare, review this week’s Learning Resources on cognitive theories. Think about how you would apply these theories in your personal and professional life.
submit a 2- to 3-page APA-formatted reflection paper that addresses the following:
Remember that this is a personal reflection, but it still needs to demonstrate your exploration and learning of the week’s topics. Be specific, and provide examples.
Support your ideas with the Learning Resources and the current literature.
