use of animals in treating trauma

Class, what do you think about the use of animals in treating trauma and/or anxiety disorders? Emotional support or psychiatric service animals are a great resource for those with trauma related stress disorders. However, what do most people classify PTSD as...a physiological or emotional disorder? The difference between the two is often a topic of great debate and is not dichotomous. So with that said, are we too only supply service animals to those that are physiologically or emotionally dependent? What are the social ramifications/norms between the two? Please use current research to support your answer...I look forward to hearing your findings.
