Attribution assignment

Attribution assignment: This assignment has 2 parts; your paper should be at least 200 words, not including the examples.

Part 1
Each of the following is intended to provide an example of: dispositional attribution, situational attribution; Identify which is which and explain your choice for each.

1. Tom picked up that wallet and returned it because he’s an honest man.

2. Denise was recently laid off from her job because of the significant downturn that the economy had taken.

3. John watches Betty slip on the stairs outside their apartment building and mutters to himself that Betty is an uncoordinated “klutz” who wasn’t paying attention to what she was doing.

4. Kathy picked up that wallet and returned it because she saw us watching her and she knew we’d report her to the police if she didn’t.


Part 2
Below are examples of the fundamental attribution bias and the self serving bias. Identify which is which and explain your choice for each.

1. Last semester my GPA was a 3.85 because I studied quite hard.

2. Daniel is playing in a basketball game and when he makes a 3 point basket he is ecstatic and tells his coach that it shows how all his practice has paid off. However later in the game he misses an almost identical shot and tells his coach that an opposing player distracted him.

3. Charles listens as Brian tells him about his low grade in philosophy. Charles decides that Brian must not be very smart if he can’t do better on his philosophy exams.

4. I didn’t do well on the last test in this class because someone stole my notes.

5. Ivy watches a customer with at least 25 items line up at her express checkout line. Ivy shakes her head in disbelief and decides that this customer must be “clueless” to miss the sign that indicates this is an express line.
