Have we ever watched a movie while muting it with no subtitles. As a average person how much we would be able to take out of it. May be from actions scenes and loves scenes it will be pretty obvious to understand but remaining dialogues  will be missed. But that does not mean we won't be able to understand the meaning or message.

Same goes with nonverbal communication. It can send very strong messages, in fact as a matter of fact people will always consider nonverbal communication rather than taking into account the words.

Observing people, their moods, facial expressions, dress, and all other expressions can pretty much tell what  they are upto.

I would like to give examples of family members that I how was able to observe their expressions while they being quiet. Authors claim that there is a relationship between nonverbal and verbal communication for e.g. " I am glad you came" however what we will tend is to take the meaning of non verbal communication with this sentence because that is one aspect where the person has less control.I totally agree with this point of you, one can easily maneuver with words but when it comes to control facial expression its very hard.

In the end I would conclude by saying" A picture is worth a thousands words"
