Did anything really surprise you? What key lessons did you take away about the importance of reframing a situation?

For this assignment, you will interview three people in order to uncover useful insights about their use of a common product – their cell phones. You should find three people different enough from one another that you will be able to identify some meaningful differences in their use of this technology (e.g. a college friend, a parent, a business owner, an established professional, a mix of men and women, etc.).

Sample questions could include (please develop your own complementary, follow-up questions as well):

  • What kind of cell phone do you use?  (smart phone vs. other)
  • Why do you have a cell phone?
  • How often do you use your phone?
  • What are the primary ways in which you use your phone?
  • What are the most important features of your phone to you?
  • Do you use apps?  If so, which ones?
  • What are the most frustrating or disappointing things about your phone?
  • What is one feature you wish your phone had, but doesn’t currently?

Assignment:

  • Compile your key findings, highlighting key learnings about the cell phone use of your three interviewees. Where were the similarities? What were the key differences?  Did anything really surprise you?  What key lessons did you take away about the importance of reframing a situation?
