1. In your own words, explain the differences and similarities between the three types of firewalls (packet-filtering,stateful, and application proxy). Include where you could use each type. Write it as if you were explaining the concepts to a novice.
2. Explain where firewalls should be placed in a typical network. Include a explanation of a DMZ and how it can protect the sensitive inside of a network. In what situations would you use multiple layers of firewalls. (Hint: see chapter 3 of the NIST publication.) You should include one or more diagrams showing typical placement of firewalls.
