Exclusionary Rule and the suppression of evidence

The text discusses the Exclusionary Rule and the suppression of evidence. Please describe what the Exclusionary Rule is and how it plays into the suppression of evidence in a criminal case. Do you think that the suppression of critical evidence relating to a serious crime where a victim has suffered (i.e. a murder or a rape) is an appropriate remedy when it was the law enforcement officer, not the victim, that made a mistake in the collection of the evidence?
