Patrol, the backbone of policing, is considered to be the most powerful strategy to control crime and disorder. The Kansans City Preventive Patrol Experiment, however, reported that the variation in patrol did not have significant effects on crime rate, fear of crime among people, and people's attitude toward the police. The findings were received with skepticism, and questions were raised about the validity of the experiments.
