Today, every state court in the United States permits victim impact statements as part of the sentencing process. Victim impact statements consists of written or oral information about how the crime impacted the victim and the victim's family. These emotion-filled statements are usually offered in an attempt to sway the sentencing court to impose a severe sentence on convicted offenders. Victim impact statements are discussed in the text beginning on page 253. Please read these sections and then share your opinion relating to this process- in short do you think victim impact statements are constitutional- should they be allowed- why or why not
