Ethics in Criminal Justice Administration Analysis

In this paper, I will discuss and analyze the relationship between ethics and professional behavior in the administration of criminal justice. I will explain the role of critical thinking with regards to the relationship of ethics and professional behavior. I will also include a proposal for a seminar in ethics training for law enforcement officers. Within my proposal I will choose five areas of ethical conduct and they will be stressed in the seminar. Lastly, I will explain why I chose those areas and what the expected benefits of the training will be for both officers and the community.

Analyze the relationship between ethics and professional behavior in the administration of criminal justice.

Ethics which many may refer as the moral principle that governs the behavior of a person or a group of people has a close relationship with the professional behaviors of people especially when it comes to administration of criminal justice. To understand the relationship between ethics and professional behavior it is important to necessary to understand the moral philosophy which entails the ability to clearly distinguish between good and bad, wrong and right, and how individuals chose to live their lives. In the administration of criminal justice professionals are required to have interpersonal ethics that gives a platform of judging wrong from right and therefore helps to creates good judgment that shows high standards of professionalism (Pollock, 2014).

Ethical issues that must be focused on when looking at the relationship between ethics and professional behavior of criminal justice includes decisions involving force discretion and the due process. Understanding the relationship between ethics and professional behavior entails having a clear comprehension of how ethics can give a person the power and ability to question and evaluate some of the assumptions that people are not always at liberty to question especially in politics and criminal justice fields.

Explain the role of critical thinking with regards to the relationship of ethics and professional behavior.

Critical thinking has an essential role with regards to ethics and professional behavior because it dictates the decision to be made by allowing one to analyze and evaluate the issue under consideration. Critical thinking has a mode role in the decisions made by professionals, it is thus important to nurture the process of critical thinking in the mindset of professionals as a strategy of increasing the precision in the decisions that they make (What is the relationship between critical thinking and ethics?, 2017). Analyzing and understanding an issue helps to make the right decisions and also reduce the possibility of biasness and therefore it is a very important virtue of professionals especially those working in criminal justice administrations. In one way or another critical thinking helps to reinforce the ethics of professions which is a very significant role in the administration of criminal justice.

Include a proposal for a seminar in ethics training for law enforcement officers. Choose five areas of ethical conduct and that will be stressed in the seminar.

Owing to the inevitable importance of ethics in the field of criminal justice there is need to organize a seminar for all the criminal justice staff and administrators to help establish good ethics among the staff. Some of the areas that can be focused on and elaborated during the seminar may include:

1.      Identifying the problems and dilemma in criminal justice and the ways of solving them

2.      Choice of correct language when addressing issues during work

3.      The necessary actions to be taken in various circumstances while upholding the moral values.

4.      How to deal with the outcomes of choices made in the line of work

5.      Importance of critical thinking in analyzing issues before making the right decisions (Sieber, & Stanley, 1988).

Explain why I chose those areas and what the expected benefits of the training will be for both officers and the community

Training on ethical issues can add a lot of value to the criminal justice administrators that will have a very significant role in the decisions made by the officers and their general performance in their work.  The right ethical behavior also help create a good relationship between the employees hence improving their performance. From the seminar the administrators will better their language and communication skills which will play a significant role in increasing the quality of the services that they will be offering. From the seminar different scenarios of dilemma and tough decisions will be analyzed which will therefore enable the officers to have a better insight of such scenarios and ways of dealing with them. The seminar will also enhance critical thinking which is of important in making good decisions in the line of work.
