What is remarkable is that the church Santa Maria della Vittoria in Rome where the sculpture is located, is famous for exactly this work, which is considered the victory of Baroque art. The sculpture depicts the moment when St. Teresa feels how the angel with a golden arrow hurt her heart, which causes her both joy and pain.

 The sculpture Apollo and Daphne you picked for today’s discussion is typical for Baroque art. Bernini transforms this rock marble into something that looks as if it is in motion. This is the very moment when Apollo caches up with Daphne, she began to transform into a tree, her fingers turning into branches and leafs, her toes forming into roots.
