In the following module, we will discuss the various types of violent crime and their causes.

Discussion 1:

In this week's reading we review the four explanations of why child abuse is prevalent in our society.  Which of these explanations seem to describe why this type of abuse occurs and what can be done to prevent this behavior from occurring?

Discussion 2:

After reading the chapters on Domestic Violence, Homicide, & Sex Offenses, discuss what we can do as a society to prevent said crimes from re-occurring.

In the following module, we will discuss the various types of violent crime and their causes. We will consider factors that predispose individuals to committing acts of violence and the emerging forms of violence in contemporary society.

Additionally, we will examine the various forms and causes of property crime in society, considering the history of these crimes and their modern form.

We will conclude with a discussion of white-collar crime, including cyber and organized crime and a description and assessment of attempts to control and safeguard against such crime. We will examine the impacts and consequences of violent, property, and white-collar crimes.

After reviewing the module content below, test your understanding by thinking about the conference essay questions. These questions may be specifically assigned by your instructor.
