Owl at Purdue

QUESTION:According to the definition of an argument essay from the Owl at Purdue, what five features should an argument essay have? How does this style of writing differ from or resemble your previous writing projects in English courses? Do you anticipate any challenges in writing in an argumentative style? Why or why not?

Answer:

According to Purdue, the five features that an argument essay should have is a clear and logical transitions between the introduction, body, and conclusion, body paragraphs that include evidential support, evidential support (whether factual, logical, statistical, or anecdotal), a clear, concise, and defined thesis statement that occurs in the first paragraph of the essay, and a conclusion that does not simply restate the thesis, but readdresses it in light of the evidence provided. First, for a clear and logical transitions between the introduction means to have transitions that have a mortar that keeps that foundation of the essay together. If there is no logical progression of interest, so you won't be able to get the reader's attention when they try to follow along with the argument essay. Second, your body paragraphs that include evidential support should have a limit discussion of one general idea. When having body paragraphs, it is important to note each essay to include a logical thesis connection when starting the open paragraph. Third, an evidential support (whether factual, logical, statistical, or anecdotal) requires you to have a well-research, accurate and detailed information that support the thesis statement and you also would need to consider other point of views too. Fourth, a clear, concise, and defined thesis statement that occurs in the first paragraph of the essay student should have a set context of reviewing a topic in a general way, so the author can explain why the topic is important or give the readers a reason a reason to care for the issue that is happening. Finally, a conclusion that does not simply restate the thesis, but readdresses it in light of the evidence provided is when the student who is doing the essay start to struggle with what they talking about. This is the portion of the essay where you will leave a most immediate expression on the faces of the reader. Now it's the time restate the why the topic you choose is important, review the thesis and main points as well as to make a short discussion of the research to in lighting your work.
