To help understand how theories may apply to real-world situations, please complete the following tasks:

When deciding which theories hold the most merit and which theories hold the least merit, people may use the theory to interpret why certain events happen or to explain particular situations. To help understand how theories may apply to real-world situations, please complete the following tasks: 

  1. Find two news articles on the internet describing current events that you think could be explained using the theoretical perspectives (feminist legal theory, critical race theory) 
  2. - For each article:
    1. Provide the link to your news article
    2. Provide a short summary of the article 
    3. Provide a 3-6 sentence explanation of how the article can be explained using a theoretical perspective.
    4. Apply an alternative theory to the article, and provide a 3-6 sentence explanation of how the other theory might explain the events in the article. 
  3. - Once you have completed this tasks for each article, answer the following questions: 
    1. Which theory or theories seem to have the most merit based on your real-world examples? 
    2. Do any of the theories you used need modification to apply to the real world examples? How might those modifications work to explain the events in the article(s) better? 
    3. Were you able to apply more than one theory to the articles successfully? What does this tell you about the theoretical perspectives/your overall picture of the event?
