The Washington Post and The Guardian newspapers provide some of the most valid estimates of police killings in the U.S.  In fact, FBI Director James Comey has stated that it is problematic and “embarrassing” that these news organizations have more accurate data on police killings that occurs annually than the U.S. government (http://time.com/4066558/police-shootings-data-fbi/).

(1) The Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/national/police-shootings-2016/.

(2) The Guardian: http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2015/jun/01/the-counted-police-killings-us-database.

First, explore these two sources on police killings in the U.S. and learn about how they measure and report deaths of citizens by the police.

Next, for each of the two sources, discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each approach.  In addressing this question consider what source provides a more accurate estimate of this police killings.  Also consider what information/data is missing from these two sources that would be helpful to know when examining this issue.
